Rules & Conduct

Rules for the ABA League Are Modified CIF Rules

  • There will be 2 – 20 minute halves. Time only stops for timeouts and official’s time (ex: injuries, clock issues, etc). Clock stops if score is within 10 points within the last 2 minutes of the game. Time stops in the last 2 minutes of game after made baskets.                                                                                                                                                                                        
  • Time Outs – Each team has 4 ( 60 second) time outs per game. Only 3 carry over to second half.
  • Overtime – 3 minute overtime period with 1 time out. 3 minute period for every additional overtime. Clock stops last 2 minutes if score within 10 points. Shot clock will be in effect for last 2 minutes of the game if game is within 10 points. 35 seconds per possession.
  • Fouls – Each player is allowed 6 fouls in a game.
  • If a player taunts an opponent, a technical foul shall be assessed.
  • On the 2nd subsequent technical foul in the same game, the player will be ejected from the game and must leave the gym.
  • The ball needs to be checked in with the referee when in bounding in the backcourt and frontcourt. There is backcourt violation.
  • When a team reaches 7 team fouls in a half, the opposing team will be in   the bonus.  When a team reaches 10 fouls the opposing team will be in the double bonus.
  • Team may advance the ball after calling a timeout.
  • Players may enter the Lane during free throw shots once the ball is released from player’s hands.
  • If a player is fouled while in the act of shooting and is injured and unable to shoot his free throws, the injured player is not permitted to return to the game.
  • Players must wear jersey with number on the back and front. No player will be allowed to play in long pants, such as jeans, sweats, or anything other than shorts. Players must remove all jewelry prior to game.
  • You may never pickup a player that is on another team’s roster to play for your team during the season, roster must be finalized by fifth game of season.  The only exception is injury; teams can add a player after the fifth game if a player suffers an injury.
  • Players must have approved game jersey with numbers on the back and front. Any player entering the game without their jersey will not be allowed in the game and a technical foul will be given to the team.
  • The bench is for players and coaches only. Any team having fans on the bench will be given a technical foul.

 

Conduct

  • Good Sportsmanship should be exhibited at all times toward all players, officials, and fans.
  • Foul language will not be tolerated.  The referee may give your team a technical foul or eject you from the game at his/her discression. 
  • Referees should never be mistreated verbally, or otherwise.  There will be nothing to gain by trying to “work” the officials.  This includes arguing calls.
  • Hard fouls or any other negative activity deemed intentional will not be tolerated and at the discression of the referee may result in ejection from the game .  Upon review of the action by organizers and the referee, player may be removed from the season without refund for any unplayed games.
  • The facility should be taken care of.
  • There will be prayer before game at mid court for players from both teams.  One team will lead prayer before the game.
  • You may never possess or participate while under the influence of a controlled substance or alcohol.
  • As the out of bounds area is tight, please take care not to injure yourself by diving, or jumping out of bounds. No one is allowed on the court while game in progress, other then players and refs.
  • Threats of, or acts of violence will result in immediate dismissal from the season without reimbursement of registration fees.
